According information which we receive from BMW the R&D Department working on alternative fuel technology when the Bavarian carmaker had showcased the i Hydrogen Next concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Anyhow, the hydrogen fuel cell technology will not only be limited to the 7-Series flagship sedan, but also will make way to other models. The carmaker is testing fuel cell technology on the current generation of BMW X5 as well which is expected to enter production in 2022. The new 2022 BMW X5 Hydrogen Version will be produced with Toyota’s help.
2022 BMW X5 Engine
The new-generation BMW X5 will also share its newly developed powertrain with the iX3 which in combination will put out 369 hp (275 kw). Its fuel cell system alone generates as much as 168 hp (125 kW) of electric energy as a result of the chemical reaction between hydrogen and the oxygen from the ambient air, with the vehicle emitting only water vapor. There are two 700-bar tanks with each holding six kilograms of hydrogen that can be refilled in 3-4 minutes, so just about the same time needed to fill up a gasoline or diesel car.
While the X5-based i Hydrogen Next due in 2022 will only be a pilot program in a small series, BMW aims to make its fuel cell tech available on a broader scale by introducing a production model past 2025, provided there will be enough demand and the market conditions will allow it. Toyota is involved in the project as the two companies have been collaborating on fuel cell powertrain systems as well as scalable.
Infrastructure is the big thing of course with hydrogen, but then we all said that about battery-electric cars, and that’s quickly becoming.
2022 BMW X5 Interior
The generous interior spaces for adults are both in the first and second lines, but the X5 ‘s optional third line is only for the child. After settling inside, passengers will be treated to a cabin with high-quality materials, plenty of charging places for the device and depending on the chosen selection-various luxury features.
Power-Adjustable front seat with memory for standard drivers. All models are equipped with power-adjustable steering columns, heated front seats, a beautiful sunroof, double zone automatic climate control, an electric rear liftgate, rain glass windshield wipers, and adjustable ambient lighting.
Massaging the chair, a secluded start, a soft-close door, an acoustic glass, a leather dashboard, and a heated front armrest and steering wheel can make the X5 feel like a fancy high-end SUV but adding a lot of dough to the bottom line. Speaking of expensive options, for $4200 buyers can add a & Wilkins Bowers surround-sound audio system that features diamond-dome Tweeters.
X5 offers abundant cargo space. With the back seat in use, we successfully adjusted our 11 carry-on luggage behind the second row of seats. With the rear seat folded-an operation that can be performed either from the side or the back of the SUV-we find room for 26 cases. Mercedes GLE matches the results of X5 ‘s in this test, the case for the case, but the back seat is not as easy to save.
