The 'Kadett' name was dropped in 1992 from the European market when the successor to the Kadett E, the Astra F, was introduced. However, while in the UK and other European countries the new car was called the 'Astra', in South Africa the name ' Kadett" was retained.
In 1994, Delta, the South African branch of Opel, launched the Astra 200t S, a five door hot hatchback based on the existing Kadett 200 iS (128HP / 96Kw). The new car had the same 4 cylinder, 2 liter DOHC, 16 valves, engine, with the addition of a KKK supercharger. Intercooler and engine management system were developed and manufactured locally in South Africa.
This 1.998cc engine produced 206PS / 203HP / 151kw at 5.800rpm and 286Nm / 211lb-ft at 3.200rpm. Power transmitted to the front wheels through a six speed manual gearbox by Getrag and a limited slip differential.
The 200tS had independent front and semi- independent rear suspension. Braking system had ventilated discs at the front and solid discs at the rear, with ABS. Steering wheel had a rack and pinion system with three turns from lock to lock. The standard tire size was 205/45X16.
Apart from the silver five- spoke 16” wheels and a 200tS badge at the back, it looked no different than the 200iS. Status is the same internally, where the car is the same as its small brother the 200Is, except the gear lever with the six speed indication.
