The Mercedes-Benz GLE gets mild hybrids in the diesel range

Mercedes-Benz modernizes the engine range of its large series of SUV models…

The new GLE 300 d 4MATIC offers optimal power delivery, but consumes significantly less than its predecessors. They are equipped with an up-to-date four-cylinder diesel engine (OM 654 M) with an integrated second-generation starter-generator (ISG) and deliver 200 kW / 272hp. Both mild hybrids can already be ordered and will be available from November.

Prices in Germany start at € 75,053.30 for the GLE 300 d 4MATIC and € 79,182.60 (GLE 300 d 4MATIC Coupé). The current OM 654 M engine is equipped with an integrated second generation starter-generator (ISG).

The ISG includes a 48-volt electrical system and provides significant fuel savings. In addition, it starts the engine very quickly and comfortably, so that the start-stop function is almost imperceptible. The same goes for the transition from “sailing” with the engine off to a strong engine response. At idle, the intelligent interaction between the ISG and the internal combustion engine ensures smooth operation.

The four-cylinder diesel is also very advanced in terms of exhaust aftertreatment. A specially coated DPF (diesel particle filter) reduces particulate emissions. Two active SCR catalytic converters (selective catalytic reduction) with separately dosed AdBlue injection enable effective reduction of nitric oxide in all operating ranges. These inverters are placed close to the engine and in the floor of the vehicle.
