Mazda CX-60 announced for March 8

After Mazda recently and officially started producing the new CX-50 for North America (in Alabama, USA), here is the announcement of another new crossover from this Japanese company.

More precisely, at the beginning of next month, we are expecting the premiere of the new Mazda CX-60, whose unmasked copies were caught a few months ago while filming promotional material.

Mazda announced earlier that it is preparing five new crossovers for 2022 and 2023, which will be sold in different markets.

The CX-50 is followed by four more crossovers, on Mazda's new Large platform. These are this CX-60 with two rows of seats and then the CX-80 with three rows of seats for the global market, as well as the CX-70 with two rows of seats and the CX-90 with three rows of seats for North America.

Depending on the model and market, the range of these crossovers will include a 2.5-liter four-cylinder petrol, Skyactiv-X 3.0-liter turbo six-cylinder with 48-volt mild hybrid assistance and a plug-in hybrid with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder, as and the new Skyactiv-D 3.3-liter diesel six-cylinder.

The news points out that the CX-60 will be offered in Europe as a plug-in hybrid, with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor, with a combined more than 300hp.

If you've been a Ford Ranger fan as long as us, you probably had the same emotional response we did when hearing that the Tremor model would be making a comeback. For better or worse Ford surprised us all when the 2021 Ranger Tremor arrived as a hardcore off-road package instead of the audiophile-geared truck it was in the early 2000s. With a small lift, impressive Fox 2.0 shocks, and 32-inch General Grabber all-terrain tires, the Ranger Tremor is the real deal when it comes to off-road capability—on paper anyway. This combination elevates Ford's Ranger to compete in the class of premium midsize off-roaders that previously included the Chevy Colorado ZR2 and Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro.

So, is the 2021 Ford Ranger Tremor the ultimate when it comes to factory off-road pickups? Read on to see just how our judges thought it fared during our weeklong torture test.

Ford Ranger Tremor RTI Ramp And Track Data

When Ford brought the Ranger back as a midsize in 2019 it did so following a trend that is becoming more and more common. Ford has offered this generation of Ranger with only a single drivetrain choice. It's really not a bad one, though, as the little truck's 2.3-liter EcoBoost I-4 engine pumps out 270 hp and an impressive 310 lb-ft of torque. Backing the EcoBoost engine is a 10-speed automatic transmission similar to what's found in the larger F-150 pickups.

Testing at the track is really the only place where our diverse group of competitors are compared head-to-head. While we don't expect the smaller midsize trucks to take down the more powerful half-tons, it is interesting to see where everything shakes out. When putting rubber to road, the Ranger Tremor ran from 0 to 60 mph in 7.61 seconds and completed the quarter-mile in 16.08 seconds at 88.0 mph. This was enough to be the quickest and fastest of the trio of midsize contenders, but what we found even more interesting was the fact that the Ranger Tremor was only a fraction of a second off of besting the far more powerful Tundra. Unfortunately, when it came to braking performance the Ranger fell to the back of the pack, reining things in from 60 mph to 0 in 152.22 feet, a full 10 feet further than the next closest competitor.

When it came time for the RTI ramp the Ranger Tremor held its own nicely with a solid mid-pack score. Climbing 51 inches up the ramp the Ranger scored a 440.53, which proved a better score than both the Nissan Frontier and Toyota Tundra but fell far behind the flexy Tacoma.

Ford Ranger Tremor Interior And Exterior

Ford made a decision, when relaunching the Ranger nameplate in 2019, to utilize the company's existing global platform. While this certainly saved the company development time and money, it's left the three-year-old Ranger feeling somewhat dated already, and this was reflected in our judges' scoring of the truck. There were many comments about the truck's hollow-sounding door closure, the interior's overall simplicity, large amount of hard plastic trim, and generally uninteresting design. Despite this, our judges were largely in agreement that the Ranger's front seats proved quite comfortable, and the B&O audio system sounded fantastic. While there was nothing specifically wrong with the Ranger's interior (although one judge disagreed with the location of the power mirror switch), it didn't win many fans and this was reflected in the scoring.

While the interior didn't garner the highest scores, the Ranger Tremor's exterior made fans out of the bulk of our judging crew. Setting the Tremor apart from other Ranger models is a slight increase in ride height, 32-inch General Grabber tires, metallic painted wheels, unique fender flares, a painted grille, rear recovery hooks, and hoop side steps. This combination gives the Ranger Tremor an aggressive style that our judges enjoyed. Specifically, the Ranger gained high marks for its stance, loads of ground clearance, aggressive all-terrain tires, and its four closed-loop recovery points. The only real complaint heard from the team focused on the Tremor-specific hoop side steps. Our judges found the steps to be largely unusable for entering or exiting the vehicle, several scraped their shins against the large hoops, and we spent the entire week of testing worried that we would damage them off-road since they hang well below the doorsill. We were all in agreement that if Ford were to ditch the large steps in favor of a more low-profile rocker guard the Tremor package would be perfect.

Ford Ranger Tremor OThe Highway

When it came to pounding the pavement the Ford Ranger Tremor scored very average marks from our judges. They noted that the Ranger felt small and nimble, which was especially handy when navigating tight parking lots. Many of our judges gave high marks to the Ranger's corner-carving ability and tight overall handling characteristics. The truck was also noted to be very smooth, thanks in part to the Tremor package's Fox 2.0 monotube dampers. The truck's EcoBoost engine and 10-speed transmission were crowd favorites as well. While there was some slight grumbling about perceived turbo lag from the turbocharged 2.3-liter I-4 engine, everyone agreed that once on the boost the small truck would really hustle. The biggest complaint we found among the judges when it came to highway driving centered around cabin noise. With the stereo off many noticed increased levels of wind and road noise, with the aggressive General tires contributing as well. Thankfully, the B&O audio system easily drowned out these noises. Fuel economy calculated from the Ranger Tremor was quite interesting. The truck is rated at 19 mpg across the board by the EPA, but during the course of our testing we saw an average of 16.43 mpg with a worst tank of 14.93 and best of 22.38. What this tells us is the Ranger Tremor gets quite thirsty when driven hard off-road but can be quite miserly while cruising on the highway. We have no doubt that in normal driving this truck can match or beat its EPA ratings, which is really rather rare.

When The Pavement Ends

Ford's Ranger Tremor comes packed with off-road features, and these really appealed to our team of judges. Thanks in part to the truck's increased ride height and 32-inch General Grabber A/TX all-terrain tires, the Ranger Tremor boasts an impressive 9.8 inches of ground clearance along with a 30.9-degree approach, 24.2-degree breakover, and 25.5-degree departure angles. This gave the truck plenty of clearance to maneuver over and around obstacles on our rocky trails. The Tremor's suspension features Fox 2.0 dampers with reservoirs in the rear. Wheel travel has increased to 6.5 inches in the front and 8.5 inches in the rear. When combined with the truck's specially tuned front and rear springs and the Fox shocks the Ranger Tremor gives a fantastic ride over moderate-size bumps and rough terrain even at higher speeds.

The Ranger Tremor also comes fitted with a host of electronic goodies designed to help during off-road adventures. Most important among these is the electronic locking rear differential. Our judges were blown away by the fact that Ford allows Ranger drivers to engage the locking differential in all drive modes, including two-wheel drive. While the locker still disengages at a relatively low speed (about 20-mph), none of the other competitors allow rear locker use in two-wheel drive and most are low-range-only. In addition to the locking differential, the Ranger Tremor also comes with Ford's Terrain Management System, which includes four distinct drive modes. It doesn't stop there; the Ranger also features Ford's innovative Trail Control system which allows the truck to handle steering and braking while on the trail. Finally, Ford recalibrated the Tremor's traction control system for improved acceleration and traction on loose surfaces.

During the course of testing there wasn't a discipline that our judges didn't rate the Ranger Tremor highly on. The truck performed admirably on our rutted hill climbs, tackled bumpy desert roads with ease and comfort, and had no issues in the rocks (aside from the low-hanging side steps, that is.) The real surprise was in the sand where the Ranger Tremor impressed with its tight chassis, great suspension tuning, and fantastic power.

Bottom Line

While the 2021 Ford Ranger Tremor might not be the newest kid on the block, it has proven to be a really solid all-around performer. If you can look past the dated interior design, the Ranger Tremor might be the perfect midsize truck for those looking to get deep into the backcountry in comfort and style. The truck's suspension, tires, and wheel package work very well together, while the drivetrain provides plenty of power and efficiency. We'd go as far as to say that the Tremor package might just be the best Ranger available today … just need to ditch those side steps.

Audi A1 and Q2 without successor

According to German media, the Audi A1 and Q2 will not get successors because the company will focus on bigger and more expensive cars in the future.

This was announced in an interview with Handelsblatt by Audi boss Markus Duesmann. The goal is higher profits, but of course stopping production will not be abrupt. Smaller models will be phased out.

Although compact SUVs may have been a trump card for many car manufacturers so far, Audi's strategy is changing. According to Duesmann, there is no place in the program for the successor to the compact SUV Q2 introduced in 2016, as the role of the brand within the Volkswagen Group has been redefined.

“We give priority to other segments,” he says, “we have also redirected Audi as a premium brand. We will limit our range of models at the bottom and expand it at the top. "

On the other hand, there are rumors that A1 will not be abolished completely, but turned into A2 (which is not related to the previous model). However, whether there will really be a new electric A2 has yet to be officially confirmed.

 PROS

  • Two- and four-wheel drive available
  • Industry-leading warranty
  • Big model range, good value

 CONS

  • Driving range could be longer
  • No high-performance version
  • There's still a wait to buy one

The bZ4X is Toyota's first purpose-designed electric car, and joins the fastest growing market sector – the electric SUV. It's underpinned by an all-new platform co-developed with Subaru, and the headline figures are its claimed 280-mile range and super-long warranty covers its battery pack and motors.

The bZ4X is similar in size to the Toyota RAV4, and it competes with the Volkswagen ID.4, Skoda Enyaq iV, Ford Mustang Mach-E and the forthcoming Nissan Ariya. It's a bold-looking car inside and out and will be sold alongside Toyota's petrol, hybrid and hydrogen models, and it's the first of 15 Toyota EVs planned for 2025.

Toyota has announced full pricing and spec details, although it's currently only available to reserve at the moment, with sales commencing later in 2022.

What's it like inside?

Inside the bZ4X is there's a reassuring mix of switches and screens, with three seats in the back, conventional door mirrors rather than a camera-based system, and twin sunroofs. The floor is flat for rear passengers (owing to the location of the battery in the floor) and Toyota claims the legroom is Camry-spec spacious.

Boot space amounts to 452 litres with the rear seats in place, and Toyota promises the latest driver assistance tech through its third-generation Safety Sense system. Further upgrades will arrive in the future via over-the-air updates.

Toyota bZ4X review (2022) interior

What it's like to drive

The bZ4X gets a steer-by-wire system. This means there's no physical link between the steering and road wheels – instead it's controlled electronically, rather like a video game controller. Known as One Motion Grip, this system releases more space for the driver as the steering column is a lot less bulky – it will be very interesting to see how it feels on the road.

The bZ4X will be offered with a choice of front- or all-wheel drive – the former uses a single motor that generates 204bhp, resulting in 0-62mph in 8.4 seconds. The four-wheel drive version has a motor on each axle for a total output of 220hp, shaving seven-tenths of a second off the 0-62mph sprint.

Range and charging

A 71.4kWh battery gives a range of around 280 miles, with charging of up to 150kW allowing an 80% top-up in half an hour. From launch the bZ4X comes equipped with a 6.6kW on-board charger, but there's an upgraded 11kW unit in the pipeline already for the fourth quarter of 2022.

In a first for Toyota the battery is water-cooled, and the manufacturer claims that clever management of the cells' temperature means they will retain 90% of their performance after 10 years or 150,000 miles of use.

Toyota is also among the first manufacturers to incorporate solar technology into an electric car, with panels in the roof of the bZ4X helping to replenish the battery while on the go or when parked.

Toyota bZ4X review (2022) charging port

What models and trims are available?

The bZ4X is offered in three versions, plus a special edition Premier model. The entry-level Pure is front-wheel drive only and comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, 8.0-inch infotainment screen, reversing camera, climate control system with remote operation function that lets you warm-up or cool the car before setting off.

The Premiere Edition model will be available for a limited time and gets a nine-speaker JBL premium sound system and the Skyview panoramic roof over and above the features included in the Vision model.

What else should I know?

The bZ4X comes with an extended care programme that covers the water-cooled battery pack. It will guarantee that it will still operate at 70% capacity after up to 10 years of ownership or 600,000 miles.

Stay tuned to find out more about the bZ4X when we get behind the wheel for the first time.

The American company Tesla has decided to withdraw more than 817,000 vehicles in the United States due to a problem with the warning for not wearing a seat belt.

Tesla is withdrawing vehicles due to the possibility that the warning sound will not sound when the car starts, and the driver has not fastened his seat belt, it is stated in the published documents of the Traffic Safety Administration.

According to Beta, the withdrawal includes the "S sedan" and "X SUV" models from 2021 and 2022, as well as the "3 sedan" model, produced from 2017 to 2022 and the "Y SUV" model, from 2020 to 2022.

Under federal motor vehicle safety laws, a warning sound must be sounded when the vehicle starts if the seat belt is not fastened.

The problem was discovered on January 6 by the South Korean Institute for Car Testing and Research, after which the company Tesla conducted an investigation and on January 25 determined that it was necessary to withdraw the vehicle.

2022 Acura NSX Type S Goes Out on Top

As Acura rolls the most powerful version of its supercar down pit lane, the sun setting over Daytona International Speedway's towering grandstands says it all. This is the end for the NSX as we've come to know it. But not before Honda's Performance division turned some screws to create the NSX Type S, the first NSX to wear the performance moniker in North America.

Daytona's high banks are the ideal place to exploit the claimed 191-mph top speed of Acura's $171,495 NSX Type S. Its boosted 3.5-liter V-6 now produces 520 horsepower, a 20-hp bump courtesy of twin turbochargers shared with the NSX GT3 Evo race car. They deliver up to 16.1 psi of boost (0.9 more than previously available), and more fuel is squirted into the cylinders. Additional thrust comes from three electric motors—two that drive the front axle and a third sandwiched between the engine and the nine-speed dual-clutch automatic. Each component of the hybrid powertrain has received software changes, and the amount of usable energy from the roughly 1.0-kWh lithium-ion battery pack has been increased. With all the gadgets working in concert, the Type S has a combined output of 600 horsepower and 492 pound-feet, gains of 27 and 16, respectively. We expect the sprint to 60 mph to take 2.7 seconds.

2022 acura nsx type s

Our relaxed lead-follow lap around Daytona's iconic road course didn't allow for maximum speed. But the long straight exiting Speedway Turn 4 provides time to appreciate the NSX for what we've always loved about it—comfortable seats that'll accommodate all body types, an airy cabin, and superb visibility as we take in Daytona under the night lights. Diving down off the tri-oval into the Turn 1 braking zone, the brake-by-wire system doesn't exhibit any of the weird springy and spongey tendencies that too often plague hybrid systems. The pedal stays firm as the optional 15.0-inch front and 14.2-inch carbon-ceramic rotors do their thing.

To complement the newfound power, Acura engineers recalibrated the software of the dual-clutch automatic. Commands from the large shift paddles are now delivered to the transmission 50 percent quicker, and under hard braking the downshifts are more aggressive. Pull on the downshift paddle for 0.6 second, and the gearbox automatically shifts to the lowest possible gear.

2022 acura nsx type s
Turning into International Horseshoe, the inputs from the steering wheel are instantaneously transmitted to the custom-developed Pirelli P Zero PZ4 tires as they bite into the track surface. A change in offset to the 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels increases the front and rear track by 0.4 and 0.8 inch, respectively. The NSX stays flat under lateral loads, and the revised torque-vectoring system provided the front drive motors keeps the Type S on a string through the apex. The recalibrated magnetorheological dampers, even in their firmest setting, shrug off the washboard curbing when exiting corners.

Aesthetically, the new Type S has more curb appeal. A revised front fascia with exposed carbon fiber not only makes the Type S more distinctive but also provides more cooling to the heat exchangers tucked behind it and improves the airflow to the rear-mounted intercoolers. Out back, a GT3-inspired carbon-fiber diffuser improves the airflow underneath the car, and a carbon-fiber spoiler graces the edge of the decklid.

2022 acura nsx type s
Our limited time behind the wheel of the Type S wasn't enough to determine if the changes to the second-generation supercar make for a meaningful improvement over the lesser version, but Acura claims they're good for a 2.0-second gain around the Suzuka race circuit. We'll soon get our hands on one to test and look forward to running the Type S at Virginia International Raceway in the fall.

If you haven't ordered your Type S already, you're too late. All 300 destined for North America (of the 350 that will be sold globally) have been spoken for. Now we wait for the sun to rise on the third-generation coupe. Hopefully it won't take another 12 years.

Despite the bad weather, the European country that is considered the capital of convertibles is Great Britain. It sounds strange, but again, it is somewhat understandable. On the other hand, the information that the British have been choosing the gray color of cars for four years in a row comes here as a kind of balance.

The most convertibles in the world are sold in the USA, in California, Arizona and Florida, which sounds logical because these American countries are illuminated by the sun, and driving with an open roof is tempting, writes the portal Kamatica.

On the other hand, Spain or Greece are not in the lead in Europe, but most convertibles are sold in Great Britain - a country that is known for rather bad weather conditions, especially for the use of this type of vehicle. On average, about 50,000 convertibles are sold annually on the Island.

A study conducted by the German Audi in Britain (which exports the largest number of its convertibles there), says that they mostly choose models with a soft, canvas roof, but that they almost never lower it. According to the results of that study, almost half, or more precisely 46% of Britons, buy this type of vehicle because they are attracted by the design, and the only added value is that they can enjoy driving with the wind in their hair on those few sunny days.

The best-selling convertible models are Mini Convertible, Mercedes-Benz E and C class, Mazda MX-5, BMW 4 and Z4, VW T-Roc, Fiat 500, Porsche 911.

On the other hand, according to the latest SMMT report published by Autocar, 2021 was the fourth year in a row in which the British mostly chose gray for cars. Namely, a quarter of all new cars sold (about 410,000 units) were gray, while the percentage of black was 21%, white 17.2%, and blue and red were in fourth and fifth place, respectively. Sales of green and pink cars increased for the first time since 2015, to 17,927 units sold.

Compact, city and sports cars were most in demand in white, and luxury limousines in black. The VW Golf was the most popular gray car, while the Volvo XC40 was the most sought after in black. The Tesla Model 3 sold the most white copies.

However, some less represented colors have gained in popularity - golden pink has grown by as much as 231%, yellow by 33%, and turquoise by 19.2%. However, cars in these three colors still accounted for only 0.9% of the total market.
